Michigan Grappler did an amazing job introducing wrestling to my 8 year old son in an age appropriate and fun way. Tony has a gift with the wrestlers and a vision to make Michigan Grappler different than other wrestling clubs in Michigan from a family standpoint.

We needed a club with high-caliber instruction and workout partners close to Fenton. Michigan Grappler has been the best thing for Henry's development. The coaches have a wealth of wrestling knowledge, know how to build champions, and are personable and approachable. Henry's trajectory is up — and that's a direct result of MGWS.

The staff at Michigan Grappler has been amazing — not just teaching my boys how to wrestle, but making it a fun and safe environment. We had a bad experience at a previous club that had them considering quitting. Our experience at Michigan Grappler was a complete 180. They now absolutely love wrestling!

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can my child start wrestling?

We welcome athletes starting from age 5. Our Learn to Wrestle program is the perfect entry point for beginners of any age.

Does my child need prior experience?

Not at all. Our Learn to Wrestle program is specifically designed for beginners. We have programs for all experience levels from first-timers to competitive athletes.

How many kids are in each class?

Younger classes are capped at approximately 15 athletes to ensure each wrestler gets proper coaching attention and a safe, structured environment.

What gear does my child need?

For beginners, athletic shorts and a t-shirt are fine to start. Wrestling shoes are recommended but not required for the first class. We'll guide you on gear as your athlete progresses.

How do I register?

Registration is handled through Wrestling IQ. Click the Register Now button anywhere on this site to view available programs and sign up.

Are there competition requirements?

We believe youth wrestling should be about learning — not winning. At the youth level, our priority is developing technically sound wrestlers who enjoy coming to practice, gain confidence through hard work, and build a lifelong passion for the sport.

Tournament competition is available for those who want it, but it is never required. We believe competition should happen because a wrestler is excited to compete — not because they feel pressured to do so. How often a child competes should be determined by their desire and each family's willingness to commit the time and travel that tournaments require.

Our focus is on mastering fundamentals, building athleticism, learning discipline, and creating confident young people who love the sport. We are developing wrestlers for the long term. When the foundation is built correctly, success in competition will follow.
